Abstract
The aim of this work is to take account of the deterioration of the existing living conditions of the population and the socio-spatial fragmentation, through the application of a Quality of Life Summary Index for the urban agglomerate of Bahía Blanca. For this purpose, the following dimensions are analysed: housing, education, health and environment, as well as the combination of variables involved in the socio-spatial configuration. Research thus demonstrates the fragmentation and differentiation of areas, resulting in deep inequalities in housing conditions and the availability of urban public services. The source of information for measuring differences in the quality of life of the Bahia population corresponds to the Census 2001 data in the level of census radios and was processed through the application of REDATAM + SP. In addition, a Geographical Information System was used for mapping, allowing for a more detailed intraurban analysis.
