Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyse the potential of the Small Producer Symbol (SPP) as an option to identify whether this coordination mechanism is an option for better peasant participation in terms of capacity building and empowerment for peasant organisations. We rely on literature review, analysis of the objectives and assumptions of the initiatives studied on their websites and printed dissemination material, as well as fieldwork with organisations in the region of Los Altos de Chiapas, Mexico, accredited by the SPP. The discussion in theoretical terms is based on contributions from various disciplines that study the intersticities of globalisation as a social process in a multifaceted perspective: economic, philosophical, consumption and marketing, social movements and confidence-building.
