An approximation of the political attitudes of Spaniards through an inductive dimensional structure

Abstract

Las research analysing political attitudes in Spain has been characterised mainly by a descriptive approach, although some of them have tried to seek explanations of the type of attitudes in the events and political history of the country. The actitudinal indicators used in this work seek to measure and structure the attitudes and political perceptions of Spaniards. Because it is not a longitudinal analysis, it is not possible to speak in the strict sense of a dimensional structure of political culture. The use of each of these indicators is justified, although they are not classified in the original dimensions indicated by Almond and Verba, and most of the authors have used: cognitive, emotional and evaluative. The aim of this work is to criticise this classification and to propose a model for the distribution of such actitudinal indicators in dimensions according to the indicators used in each case. In order to discover the dimensional structure of the Spanish political guidelines or attitudes, measurement indices have been created that make it possible to know the relationship between the indicators used in a factorial analysis. Finally, each of the dimensions drawn from the analysis is described and the coherence of the relationships between the attitudes included in each of them is discussed.
