The purpose of the study lies in the scientific and theoretical substantiation of the artistic features of the children's variety theater, to identify the specifics of directorial practices in such groups, the characteristics of the content, forms and methods of work on the example of the activity of the children's variety theater "Star Time" in Odessa. The research methodology is based on the use of the following scientific approaches: complex - to reveal the essence of all aspects of the artistic specifics of children's theater; cultural - for comparison and comparison of philosophical, historical, psychological, pedagogical and art components in the activities of children's variety theater; empirical - for observation, interviewing children and parents, etc. The scientific novelty. For the first time for the purpose of scientific-research comprehension, the experience of creative and organizational activity of the children's variety theater "Star Time" of Odessa was collected, systematized and analyzed, the main director's techniques in working with children were described and directions of further development of the collective were generalized. The conclusions. Theater as a means of personality formation takes one of the first places among other types of children's creativity, it is for children a source of information about the surrounding world and the laws of life, makes you think about the meaning of human existence and the depths of the human soul, so the children's variety theater "Star Time" in Odessa presents a theoretical model of the children's variety theater, consisting of two directions of the collective activity. The first involves the analysis and definition of the features of work with the participants of the performance, as well as the observance of certain principles in their activities. The second direction concerns directly the creative activity of children's variety theater, in particular methods, forms and means. The article describes the modern director's techniques and identifies the features of the professional activity of the director, who works in the children's team, consisting in extremely careful attitude to children's theatrical creativity, taking into account the age, physiological, psychological properties of children, the need to create such an organization of theatrical creativity of children, which will ensure full self-detection of young actors, preserving similarity to the natural children's play; the main directorial and creative technologies, as well as further prospects for the development of children's theater, were analyzed.
