Mobile photojournalism: the end or reinvention of press photographers?

Abstract

The internet, social media and technological developments have led to a shift in the information paradigm, with a greater impact on press photojournalism. The increased resolution of mobile cameras has enabled an amateur to make a publishable photo, which, in addition to the internet and social media, spreads rapidly to millions of users. And therefore that agencies and the media use them when a major event occurs. They have discovered a new source of information that provides them with free material. In addition, some media have already dismissed their photographers and replaced them with smartphones. On the contrary, there are other photographers and researchers who are more optimistic about the new media presented to them, saying that a new golden era is open to them. In this article we will investigate the state of photojournalism, is it the end or reinvention of press photographers? Abstract: The Internet, social networks and technological developments have caused a change in the news paradigm, affecting an ever-increasing proportion of the photojournalism process. The increase in the resolution of camera phone Photographs has become an amateur to take Publishable Photos, then promptly spread it among million of users through Internet-based social networks. Many news agencies and media releases now again on these freely-available amateur Photographs as a reachable source of up-to-the-minute photographic information. Also, some news companies have even missed their photographers naturally and replace them by smartphones. Release this, some photographers and researchers are optimistic about the new tools and believe they may usher in a new golden age in photojournalism. In this article, we investigate the current state and future of photojournalism, and ponder if this marks the end or symbolising a reinvention of the role of press graphers.
