Abstract
Caryocar Brasiliense Camb wants the family Caryocaraceae, and gênero Caryocar. This species is found in several states of Brazil, in particular in the shredded biome. It has various applications in traditional medicine, food use and wood. The aim of this work was to carry out a literature review on the main methods of extraction, chemical composition and medicinal properties of pequi oil. A search was carried out in the google acadêmico and Scielo databases using the keywords; methods of extraction of pequi oil, chemical composition, pharmacological properties of medication. 92 articles were captured, out of which 19 articles were selected from the analysis of the title ‘Summary’. The main extraction techniques are Soxhlet, hexane organic solvents, chloroform and supercritical and cold fluid extraction. The majoritarian components of pequi oil are mono- and unsaturated grax acids, and terpenoids and esters. The oil has various biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, scarring, antifungal and reducing cardiovascular problems. Therefore, in-depth research must be carried out in the context of both chemical composition and pharmacological activity in order to obtain new medicinal products.
