Education of Youth and Adults from the perspective of human education: challenges in the context of flexible working relationships

Abstract

Based on Antonio Gramsci’s thinking, this article aims to reflect the economic, political and social role of Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the context of flexibility in Brazil, as a result of changes in the world of production and work in recent decades. To this end, he discusses the ethical and political direction of the EJA in the context of the dual structure of Brazilian education and educational reform, which took place in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and then, in contrast to that proposal, present the concept of EJA from the perspective of human education, in full and in addition to the interests of the market and capital. These are reflections based on research data carried out in 2017, involving 8 teachers and 67 students from the 1th and 2th segments of Fundamental Education from two schools belonging to the Youth and Adult Education Programme of the Rio de Janeiro municipal network.
