Abstract
Tässä on the information needs and debate on suicide of socially withdrawn people in Finland, i.e. hilly colonies, in the Ylilaudan Hikikomero chat room. The main research issues are: What are the information needs of interlocutors in relation to suicide and what motives for psychological and social suicide can be observed in online discussions? The theoretical frame of reference of the article is based on the theory of Reijo Savoury. One of the main objectives of the article is to identify online disnormative information, both in the form of peer-to-peer information and peer support. The article is based on messages on suicide in the Hikikomero chat room of Ylilauda’s social withdrawals (n=2124). Quantitative and qualitative content analysis has been applied in the analysis of the dossier. The results show that peer support and peer-to-peer information play a major role in the planning of suicide. The conversation column provides answers and understanding to their own opinions. It is regrettable that in many cases, peer support and peer-to-peer information are negative in nature and encourage suicide attempts. The experience of invaluable and helplessness and the feeling of losing one’s own life control motivate suicide. On the other hand, the lack of courage and concerns about the killing of loved ones are factors preventing suicide.
