Les femmes sadiennes avec Lacan

Abstract

The article proposes to use Lacanian notions to complicate our perception of men and women relationship in Sade’s fiction. In his works of the early 1960s, Lacan comments on Sade, assuming that the novels are not to be taken as a political model but rather as a dramatic representation of the conflicts between the various agents of the unconscious. Moreover, applying the 20th Seminar entitled Encore, On Feminine Sexuality to the two-part story of Justine and Juliette emphasizes the actual superiority of female characters over male libertines.
