At the origin of the work survey: conricerca and classroom line in Italy in the years 1950-1960 

Aux origines de l'enquete ouvrière: conricerca et ligne de classe en Italie dans les années 1950-1960

How do knowledge workers represent their own condition? Through which categories of thought? Is the precariousness of knowledge work different from the precarious nature of generic and undifferentiated work? This question seeks to answer our empirical research through a broad social survey carried out through biographic narrative interviews in multiple professional fields of knowledge work. It, programmers, developers, telecoms and university research workers, web designers and web workers, digital artists, trainers, researchers, industrial designers, journalists, translators, photographers, were interviewed during some major ‘events’ of the new Turinese media between the end of 2006 and early 2007: Virtuality, Linux Day, Artissima, Film Festival. The choice was to give preference to a research course in the field, based on the progressive implementation of the definition of the ‘subject’ of the study, which is itself an active part of the research process through the ‘method’ of co-research and narrative. It was not really a matter of choosing a method, or simply of rethinking about experience, but of a way of forming it, shaping it and questioning it at the same time. Thinking and telling the experience was not, or is not only, accountable for it, reflecting it for analysis, but overcoming it. Based on these underlying “methodological” and epistemological choices, our field study has been carried out.

Come i lavoratori della conoscenza rappresentano la loro stessa condizione? Attraverso quali categorie del pensiero? La precarietà del lavoro della conoscenza si presenta in maniera diversa dalla precarietà del lavoro generico e indifferenziato? A questa domande vuole rispondere la nostra ricerca empirica attraverso un'ampia inchiesta sociale condotta mediante interviste biografiche narrative realizzate in molteplici ambiti professionali del knowledge work. Informatici, programmatori, sviluppatori, lavoratori delle telecomunicazioni e della ricerca universitaria, web designers e web workers, artisti digitali, formatori, ricercatori, designers industriali, giornalisti, traduttori, fotografi, sono stati intervistati durante alcuni importanti "eventi" dei nuovi media torinesi tra la fine del 2006 e l'inizio del 2007: Virtuality, Linux Day, Artissima, Festival del Cinema. La scelta è stata quella di privilegiare un percorso di ricerca sul campo, basato sulla progressiva implementazione della definizione dell' "oggetto" di studio che è a sua volta parte attiva nel processo di ricerca attraverso il "metodo" della conricerca e della narrazione. Non si è trattato propriamente di scegliere un metodo, né semplicemente di riportare un pensiero sull'esperienza, ma di un modo di costituirla, di darle forma e di interrogarla al contempo. Pensare e narrare l'esperienza non è stato dunque, o non è solo, renderne conto, rifletterla per analizzarla, bensì superarla. A partire da queste scelte "metodologiche" e epistemologiche di fondo, si è svolta il nostra studio sul campo.

Narratività come potere di autorappresentazione di condizioni invisibili: i lavoratori della conoscenza

The article is based on studies (conricerca) carried out at the Zeran Automobile Automobile Plant. A total of seventeen discussions were held on the realities of the factory life and the perception of the workers surveyed. This text presents extracts from interviews on the political transition in Poland in the late 1980s and 1990s. They have been developed and thematically divided. The main objective of the author of the text is to present a working narrative on the fall of the so-called real socialism in Poland and its impact on the fate of the factory. Much of the work has been devoted to the issue of the takeover of the plant by the Korean Daewoo group. This has largely affected the fate of the factory. It was not indifferent to FSO’s employees, as evidenced by the numerous voices of workers gathered in that article. The method used by the author of the conricerca — was developed on the basis of an operational thinking for the examination of the Italian labour class in the second half of the xx century. It presupposes that joint research with representatives of the working class requires the personal participation of workers and workers. Research should seek to overcome the rigid opposition of investigators in favour of an approach whereby researchers are both investigators and researchers at the same time.

Artykuł powstał w oparciu o badania (conricerca) przeprowadzone w Fabryce Samochodów Osobowych na Żeraniu. Odbyto łącznie siedemnaście rozmów dotyczących realiów życia fabrycznego oraz światopoglądu badanych robotników i robotnic. W niniejszym tekście przedstawiono fragmenty wywiadów dotyczące przemian politycznych w Polsce na przełomie lat osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych dwudziestego wieku. Zostały one opracowane i podzielone tematycznie. Głównym celem, jaki postawił sobie autor tekstu, jest przedstawienie robotniczej narracji na temat upadku tzw. realnego socjalizmu w Polsce i tego, jaki miał on wpływ na losy fabryki. Znaczna część pracy została poświęcona kwestii przejęcia zakładu przez koreański koncern Daewoo. Fakt ten w dużej mierze zaważył na losie fabryki. Nie był on obojętny dla pracowników fso, o czym świadczą liczne głosy robotników zebrane w tym artykule. Metoda, którą posłużył się autor conricerca – została wypracowana na gruncie myśli operaistycznej do badania włoskiej klasy robotniczej w drugiej połowie xx wieku. Zakłada ona, że warunkiem wspólnych badań prowadzonych z przedstawicielami klasy robotniczej jest podmiotowe uczestnictwo robotników i robotnic. W toku badań powinno się dążyć do przezwyciężenia sztywnej opozycji badający–badani na rzecz podejścia, zgodnie z którym badacze są jednocześnie badanymi, a badani – badaczami.
