International audience Article n-ḥ-’alif of Ibn Manẓūr’s (d. 711/1311) Lisān al-‘Arab opens with a quote from ʾAzharī’s (d. 370-980) Tahḏīb al-luġa mentioning Greek art of grammar and the character of Yaḥyā al-naḥwī/Yuḥannā al-ʾIskandarānī, i.e. Johannes or John of Alexandria, also called the Grammarian or Philopon (around 490-575 AD). The purpose of this paper is to answer two questions: 1) what could be the meaning of the highlighting of a passage, which in ʾAzharī himself is not at the head of the article, under the pen of a Maghrebi lexicographer of the late 7th/13th-early 8th/14th century? ; 2) in the broader context of the meeting between worlds, which constitutes the theme of UEAI 28, what does such a quotation tell us about the long, complex and confrontational history of falsafa’s reception in the world of Islam itself?

L’article n-ḥ-’alif du Lisān al-‘Arab d’Ibn Manẓūr (m. 711/1311) s’ouvre par une citation du Tahḏīb al-luġa d’al-ʾAzharī (m. 370-980) mentionnant l’art grec de la grammaire et le personnage de Yaḥyā al-naḥwī/Yuḥannā al-ʾIskandarānī, i.e. Johannes ou Jean d’Alexandrie, appelé aussi le Grammairien ou Philopon (vers 490-575 ap. J.C.). La présente communication a pour but de répondre à deux questions : 1) quel peut bien être le sens de la mise en exergue d’un passage, qui chez ʾAzharī lui-même n’est pas en tête d’article, sous la plume d’un lexicographe maghrébin de la fin du VIIe/XIIIe-début VIIIe/XIVe siècle ? ; 2) dans le contexte plus large de la rencontre entre mondes, qui constitue le thème de UEAI 28, que nous dit une telle citation sur l’histoire, longue, complexe et conflictuelle, de la réception de la falsafa dans le monde de l’islam même ?
