Social media, hegemomic masculinity and violence: male as a (des) civilizational element in Brasilhttp://8ae4c304-a04c-405ed7-a26352a9abbfO control of pulsions and the decline in violence are elements pointed out by Norbert Elias as civilisational aspects and that from the ladder model we can evoke the elevation or decadency of human groups from one level to another, as the civilisation curve is not an uninterrupted continuum and may suffer at different stages of the process. Decivilisation means a transformation in the opposite direction, a clear reduction in sympathy for the other or for his group. Bearing in mind that 58 % of Brazilians have at least an active profile on social media, we want to look at current postings on Facebook’s social network pages that they refer or consider as a starting point: (a) promotion of machist behaviour; (b) incitement to ganery violence; (c) maintaining stereotypes linked to Virility, and (d) neglecting women and LGBTQIA + groups. If male domination, as Pierre Bourdieu claims, is anchored in the unconscious, and symbolic structures ratifying this unconscious androccentric survive in men and women still today, we will seek, in dialogue, with the eligian theory, which mechanisms and institutions make it possible to maintain such customs that do not contribute to the fairness of gênery, and which features need more attention to strengthen self-control and to determine public policies to promote the fairness of gypsum and combat violence caused by behaviour linked to toxic masculinity.
