Straw production of urban rivers: Community planning on the landscape river, San Luis Potoyes, Mexico

Povzetek

The expansionary growth in cities results in the loss of ecologically important areas such as rivers due to their paving, canalisation and underground conditions. Some cities have recovered their rivers through rehabilitation, restoration and sanitation, involving various actors, including their neighbouring communities. The above recovery elements are used in this work, as part of the community planning approach, in order to draw up a plan for the rescue of the landscape river in San Luis Potoyes, Mexico. Our research addresses this intermittent river as a water landscape resulting from the dialectic relationship between the natural, social and urban environment. The results indicate that the river is affected by pollution and that the community associates various problems with the river, of which it identified as priorities insecurity and crime, lack of connectivity, pollution and riverside invasion affecting both flora and fauna, deteriorating soil and water quality. Based on these findings, rescue strategies are discussed from a multidisciplinary perspective, combining planning and urban design, based on participatory methods.
