Abstract
This article is dedicated to the issue of reconciliation in Rwanda. He provides a new overview of this phenomene by proposing a change of perspective for his study. It tries to dispel the meaning of reconciliation “from the bottom” by interfering with individual actors who are committed to what they see as reconciliation in Rwanda. As a first step, the article looks at the litterature which, due to a strong polarisation between authors, often engages in more or less reductive conceptions of social logic in Rwanda and tends to confuse reconciliation as a simple top-down taxation, leaving the action of local actors in the dark. In this sense, reconciliation in Rwanda is defined as a black box which can be opened by analysing it through the perspective of individual actors. In addition, it is important to take into account the extraterritorial dimension of reconciliation, caused by the cyclical population movements of exile and the return to Rwanda. Secondly, the article focuses on these local actors and, through their ‘extraverties’ biographies, their commitment to reconciliation is based on empirical data. This micro perspective indicates that, even if they confuse reconciliation as a commitment to transform social relations, they will above all give it a meaning. Through various forms of engagement, they emphasise the need to reconcile themselves with each other.
